"Attendance at the academy has improved greatly and is above the national average. The number of students who are persistently absent has significantly reduced as a result of partnership working between the academy, families and other agencies. Students say that they enjoy learning and ‘don’t want to miss a day.’ " Ofsted 2013

Please remember to make contact with school by 8.25am on the first day of absence if your child is unable to attend due to illness. This should be done by telephoning the academy on 0161 795 3005, leaving your name, your child's name, tutor group and reason for absence. Equally, if you know of any planned absence, such as hospital appointments, please give as much notice as possible. We would also appreciate all dental and non-urgent doctor appointments being made out of school hours.
Any issue related to absence, attendance or punctuality that you are not sure about, please contact your form tutor, LPSO or school attendance officer, to help us keep the system working efficiently.
Types of absence
Unauthorised absence – this is when children are absent from school without the authority of the head teacher. Below is a list of some of the reasons where absence from school may not be authorised;
- Birthday treat
- Day trip
- Leave in term time for a holiday that has not been authorised
- Shopping or visit to hairdresser
- Taking a long week-end
- Taking the rest of the day off, before or after a dental or medical appointment
- Family celebration
Authorised absence – There are very few reasons why absence may be authorised and in all cases you must inform your child’s school and explain the reasons why your child is absent.
If you need to take your child out of school during term time for exceptional circumstances, then you must contact your child’s school who will inform you of the procedure.
Only the Principal can authorise absence and may request further evidence to support this.
Please do not take children out of school during term time for holidays. While we appreciate that it can be more expensive to go away in the school holiday periods, losing valuable school time is at the expense of your child's education. Leave of absence for holiday purposes is only authorised under very exceptional circumstances.
At the Co-operative Academy we do not believe that children should be removed from school for this purpose and parent/carer should not expect such leave to be granted.
We are delighted that academy's average attendance is now over 97%. We thank all parents, carers and student s for the support in ensuring their children are in the academy every day, working and living the academy values.
We have over 300 students who have 100% attendance, who will all receive their 100% Attendance badge. Bronze Silver and Gold badges are awarded each term.
Attendance is a priority for the academy and all staff are responsible for it. Have a look at the document below to see how staff work together to keep attendance high.
