Meet Miss Thistlethwaite

Dear Parents/Carers,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce/reintroduce myself as the Learning and Pastoral Support Officer for Year 11.  I worked with the majority of the students when they were in Year 8.  Therefore, I have already built some good relationships with them.

In Year 11 I expect a high standard at all times this is to ensure that all students reach their full potential.

Punctuality:

If your child arrives late to the academy, he/she will be kept for 30 minutes at the end of the day, if he/she does not attend the detention they will be kept for 60 minutes the following day.  If your child is late twice in a week I will invite you in to meet with me to discuss the matter.

Attendance:

Your child should be in school every day; if he/she is absent for medical purposes evidence will be required.  It has been proven that students with good attendance do achieve more than those who do not.  Please do not take your child on holiday in term time.

Behaviour:

If your child displays poor behaviour in the academy and has two behaviour logs in a week, he/she will be placed on report to me for 2 weeks.  If they continue to display poor behaviour you will be invited in to meet with me and a Pastoral Support Plan will be put in place.  Consistent poor behaviour will result in your child not be invited to the prom and further actions will be taken.

Prom

The Prom will be held in June 2015 – only students with good attendance, punctuality and behaviour will be invited.

References

Your child’s form tutor will write a reference before Christmas 2014 – this will be used for colleges, jobs, apprenticeship or any other purpose where a reference is required.

Boosters

Your child will be expected to attend all booster sessions that their teacher asks them to, they will take place  from 2.30 – 3.00 every day and some Saturdays as the exams draw closer.

College Applications

Students will start to complete college applications in September and October.  All college applications must be completed before we break up for Christmas.

Parents Evening

Year 11 parents evening will take place on Thursday 15 January 2015 4.00 – 6.00 please ensure you attend as it is a critical time for the students and they will require a great deal of support.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or queries.

Thank you

Miss Thistlethwaite
