Runway on the Runway - charity fashion show

On Friday 27 March, students from Year 11 and our Sixth Form took part in the Runway on the Runway fashion show.

The show takes place under the wings of the Concorde airplane at Manchester Airport, and is in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. So far our ‘Runway team’ have raised an amazing £2000 but fundraising hasn’t finished yet, and the team have until July to complete their work.

The Co-operative Academy of Manchester is one of the few lucky schools invited to take part, following our brilliant performance at the last event in 2013.

This money has been raised by a variety of initiatives, including prize draws for students and pamper sessions in our salon for staff.

Mrs Wedderburn who supervised the students said that “lots of hard work and preparation went into the Runway event this year, and a lot of pressure was taken of me by our Sixth Form student Chelsea Nixon who did a lot of the organising herself.”

Sixth Former Chelsea Nixon took a leading role in meeting with the Principal, organising fundraising events, choreographing the walk down the catwalk and getting other students involved. She says “I loved it! We worked really well as a team”.

Other students who took part called it “a good night” and “a great opportunity”. Head of Sixth Form Mrs Fiddler says that “the students enjoyed the chance to do something positive for those less fortunate than themselves.”
