Building expansion update from the Director of the Trust
We are in the process of writing to local residents to update them on the progress of our building expansion work.
The following is taken from a letter from Frank Norris, Director of The Co-operative Academies Trust.
As you may have heard, The Co-operative Academy of Manchester, part of The Co-operative Academies Trust, plans to expand to accommodate a further 700 students over the next five years. This letter is to provide you with an update on progress.
The £18 million extension will provide the academy with a new Expressive Arts Centre including a theatre for community use, more teaching spaces and improved sports facilities, including a climbing wall. The Trust was expecting work to commence last September but delays were experienced as we worked with the City Council to ensure we got great facilities and good value for money. As you can imagine, it is important that we get the extension right for the students, staff and the local community. We are ambitious and want the new facilities to be of benefit to local residents so we hope the discussions we have been having will have secured a fantastic resource for Blackley.
The new facilities will offer more parking for staff and visitors, ensuring there is limited impact on local roads. In addition, we have agreed a timetable for the building work that will ensure there is minimal disruption to the students during their examinations in the summer this year.
I am pleased to inform you that we are expecting work to commence in March although you may see some early groundwork commencing in the next week or so. We will be siting a small number of temporary classrooms at the academy while building construction is underway. We are expecting the building to be ready by late spring 2018.
You can find more details of the project at www.cam.coop. If you have any immediate queries please direct these to the academy. We will be using the academy’s website to keep residents informed of construction work so please visit the website regularly.
