See the plans - consultation on building expansion
We invite parents, carers and the local community to have their say in connections with plans for a significant expansion at The Co-operative Academy of Manchester.
The following letter is also being sent home to parents and carers. In addition, local residents will also be invited to join the consultation.
What do the plans include?
The plans will include growing student capacity from c. 900 to 1500 and providing improved facilities including an Expressive Performing Arts Centre, new teaching spaces and improved sports provision, aiming for completion in September 2017.
This will enable the academy to continue to both serve the local community and continue to offer excellent standards of teaching. The additional school places are required as part of a City-wide programme of school expansion and building new schools to accommodate the need for secondary places to accommodate a growing City population.
The additional academy places will be accommodated within an extension to the existing school building on part of the existing grass pitches to the east of the site. To ensure that the academy is able to accommodate the required sports pitch facilities, Manchester City Council, has offered additional land to the west of the site (on City Council land), currently forming part of Tweedle Hill Common.
