Hairspray production: meet ‘The Nicest Kids In Town’

Students put on a fantastic production of the hit musical Hairspray for three nights in February. The musical, (which was made popular by the movie starring Zac Efron and John Travolta) includes catchy tunes like ‘Good Morning Baltimore’ and ‘The Nicest Kids In Town’.

Drama teacher Emma Lees says, “we are proud of our diverse community and Hairspray certainly reflects the academy values of Fairness, Ambition and Respect. Set in Baltimore, USA during the year 1964, Hairspray sees vibrant and outgoing teen Tracy Turnblad use her new found fame to encourage integration and break down the racial tensions of the time.

“This year we have a much bigger cast from a variety of different year groups. They have worked tirelessly to bring this show together, often coming in at weekends and staying well after everyone else has left the academy.”

The show was extremely popular with a full house on all nights. Plans are already underway for our 2017 production. Keep an eye on our website to find out more nearer the time.
