Open Day: football and raffle winners

The academy saw record numbers attend its Open Evening on Thursday 2 October 2014.

Highlights of the Open Evening included a football tournament for local primary schools. We invited our friends at MCFC’s City in the Community to run the tournament, which the following schools took part in:

Blackley E-ACT Academy, Bowker Vale Primary School, Charlestown Primary School, Crab Lane Primary School, Crumpsall Lane Primary School, Lily Lane Primary School, Pike Fold Primary School and Temple Primary School.

Congratulations to all the teams for taking part, and especially to Bowker Vale Primary School who won the tournament and who keep hold of the trophy they have won 7 times.

This tournament was even bigger than the previous 6 we have organised, as two new primary schools took part (Lily Lane Primary School and Temple Primary School). This reflects the growth of the academy which this year welcomed its largest ever Year 7 cohort.

On top of the football tournament there was plenty for visitors to do, with each department organising fun activities to show off their subject. One highlight was the rehearsals for the academy’s production of Little Shop of Horrors which will be performed in February.

Visitors were encouraged to visit each department and collect a stamp from each – those collecting all the stamps were entered into a prize draw to win a luxury Co-operative hamper. This was drawn at random on Friday 3 October and the winner was Gabriela Slodova, a local primary school student who was presented with the hamper in her school assembly.
