Our inspiring careers programme gains award
The academy was recently awarded the bronze level Inspiring IAG award, recognising our excellent provision of careers education.
As well as benefitting from the support of the Co-operative Group, which includes some of the UK's largest and most successful companies, students have the full support of academy staff and resources in order to develop their:
- Decision Making
- Self Awareness
- Career Exploration
- Employability Skills and Career Management
At the academy these areas are deeply embedded into the student experience:
Our values promote Fairness, Ambition and Respect - fostering positive attitudes to succeed in future education and employment.
In lessons, students develop English, Maths and ICT skills which are vital for all jobs. In addition, our students choose from a wide range of options to develop further skills.
Students have access to support in and out of lessons through teaching assistants, tutors, LPSOs, their families and other staff such as the IAG Officer.
Students are given a very wide range of extra-curricular opportunities, from our sports clubs and other after school activities such as Debate Mate, to meeting guest speakers in assemblies and Flexible Learning Mornings and on educational trips.
In addition, the academy organises an annual careers fair to highlight pathways to students, gives all Year 10 students the chance to go out on work experience and organises 1 to 1 careers advice interviews for Year 11.
The academy is now working on the silver and gold levels which we hope to achieve soon.
