Half term activity blog: football, cheerleading, magic and more

Find out what's been going on in the academy this half term in our live blog. We'll be uploading pictures and news as it happens.

The February half term activity club took place at the academy on Monday and Tuesday 18th and 19th February.

A range of activities were on offer to children and parents/carers from the local community run by our qualified teachers and professional specialists.

The activities ranged from our popular ICT – 3D computer game making workshop which took place in our state of the art ICT Suite to a cheerleading class where children were shown the basic skills to produce a 5 minute routine which they showed to parents at the end of the session.  A professional magician also worked with the children showing them how to perform amazing tricks that they could show to their family and friends.  Our regular UEFA football coach was very popular again this time showing great football skills to children of all abilities.

We also provided two activities that were specifically designed as a parent and child activities.  The first being the successful cooking club which is very popular.   The theme this time was using a range of vegetarian ingredients to produce a healthy meal which they took home to enjoy - the smells coming out of the food technology area were amazing!

Another activity for parents and younger children (aged 5 – 8) was pop-up play.  This activity was designed for parents and children to be creative and imaginative with the material on offer in the relaxing environment of the academy.  Some of the things created ranged from cars to robots – it looked so much fun!

During the two days we also invited some of our local primary school children to work alongside our maths and English teachers to gain extra support in these subjects.  This was combined with a session on the trampoline and also reading support with pupil volunteers from the academy.

The Easter Half Term activity club is being held on the 2nd/3rd/4th April so keep an eye out on the website for more information.
