Welcome to Technology, Catering & Product Design

At the academy our students all study a variety of topics in Technology, including:

  • Food
  • Product Design
  • Graphics
  • Textiles

Students have the opportunity to design and build a range of exciting products, including:

  • Lanterns
  • Fleece hats
  • Birdboxes
  • Sweet and savoury food dishes
  • Scalextric cars
  • Name plates
  • Pewter Casting

Curriculum overview

  • Years 7: All students take two lessons per week of Technology.
  • Year 8: All students take one lesson per week of Technology.
  • In the spring of Year 8, students choose the options subjects they will take from Year 9 to Year 11. Students and their families are guided through this process through taster lessons, assemblies, our options online guide and a special options information evening. We support all students to choose subjects they will enjoy and which they will succeed in, and which will unlock future opportunities.

  • Years 9-11: Students who choose options in Product Design or Food & Nutrition have 2 lessons per week.

The Department runs an Able and Talented Tech Club for Key Stage 3 students. This club has given them the opportunity to develop skills beyond the classroom and challenge their creative minds. Currently the students are working to a brief set by The Co-op to produce a new product for Co-op Food stores.
