Curriculum overview

  • Years 7-8: All students take one lesson per week of Geography. Students look at a variety of fascinating topics including: Map Skills, What makes Manchester unique?, Water & its effects on the land, Risky World & Fantastic Places, Tourism
  • In the spring of Year 8, students choose the options subjects they will take from Year 9 to Year 11. Students and their families are guided through this process through taster lessons, assemblies, our options online guide and a special options information evening. We support all students to choose subjects they will enjoy and which they will succeed in, and which will unlock future opportunities.
  • Year 9-11: Students choosing to continue studies in Geography have two lessons per week, starting topics such as: Plate Tectonics, Coasts, Rivers, Population, Ecosystems, Development and Weather

Qualifications entered in Year 11

Not only does the Geography Department lead the Humanities Create club for all students, but they are also planning a trip to Naples in Italy in autumn 2017. Students on the trip will see for themselves the historic towns like Pompeii, preserved from the eruption of Mount Versuvius.
