Drama work

The Drama Department plays a leading role in academy life through our annual productions. Drama lessons give students unique opportunities to develop confidence and empathy, and to explore the world through a variety of experiential techniques.

Curriculum overview

  • Years 7-8: All students take one lesson per week of Drama where they have the chance to explore themes through the medium of Drama. They learn characterisation, interpretation of text and various approaches to structuring drama work.
  • In the spring of Year 8, students choose the options subjects they will take from Year 9 to Year 11. Students and their families are guided through this process through taster lessons, assemblies, our options online guide and a special options information evening. We support all students to choose subjects they will enjoy and which they will succeed in, and which will unlock future opportunities.
  • Years 9-11: Those students who choose Drama as an option have two lessons per week.

Qualifications entered in Year 11
