Welcome to our Community Pages

"Active engagement with stakeholders and the community ensures the academy has a high profile, makes best use of local resources and provides valued facilities and events for local residents." Ofsted November 2014

Being a force for good in the community is part of who we are. It’s in our co-operative nature and together with our sponsor, The Co-op, we support the Blackley community in a number of ways.

Working with other schools

We have a strong relationship with local secondary schools and with our feeder primary schools. Together, we strive to offer young people in Blackley and North Manchester the best.

Opportunities for young people

Local young people also benefit from our excellent partnerships with One Education Music Services, 105th Manchester Scout Group and the Blackley Volunteer Police Cadets scheme – all of which are based at the academy but open to the whole community.

Each half term we run activities for children – keep an eye on our half term page a few weeks before each holiday.

A venue for the wider community

Our excellent facilities are available for hire at affordable rates for teams, clubs and events.

We also have a calendar of events including music concerts, the annual academy production and our Senior Citizens Christmas Party, which the whole community is welcome to attend.

We are proud to host the Blackley in Bloom meetings in which green-fingered residents come together to make the neighbourhood as beautiful as it can be.

Helping adults into employment and to start their own businesses

Together with our partners Yes Manchester and Northwards Housing, we have launched The Hive. The Hive offers a number of office pods – perfect for digital businesses – at very affordable rates. The Hive is also home to Yes Manchester’s drop-in service for adults who want support with finding job and training opportunities.

Encouraging our own students to become good citizens and community leaders

We encourage our own students to volunteer their time to support the community, including at the events we organise for the community. In the academy, Student Voice is taken seriously and students are invited to take a leading role in promoting our values of fairness, ambition and respect.

Our partnership with The Co-op gives our students unrivalled access to work experience placements at their head office in Year 10.
