The Co-operative wins award for work with its academies

The academy’s lead sponsor, The Co-operative Group, has been awarded a prestigious award for its work with our academy.

Business in the Community, a charity whose president is The Prince of Wales, awarded The Co-operative Group a Big Tick award at a ceremony in June 2014. This achievement recognises the outstanding support the 6 academies sponsored by The Co-operative Group receive from the company.

Laura Boonham, National Projects Assistant at The Co-operative Group collected the award on behalf of the Group in the same week she has been managing the Year 10 work experience programme. 30 of our students are currently on placement at The Co-operative Campus in Manchester City Centre, including in the fantastic new landmark building, One Angel Square.

The students clearly enjoy working in such an inspiring place and have spoken to visiting teachers and staff with a clear understanding of the businesses they are working in, and with a real feeling that they have gained very valuable experience of working in a highly professional environment.

Also in June, a number of representatives from The Co-operative’s Executive visited the academy to meet our students and to let the students quiz them about their career paths and their top interview tips. The students especially enjoyed meeting an employee working on the graduate scheme, who provided a clear example of how aspirational young people can achieve their potential in the career market.

Students at The Co-operative Academy of Manchester benefit from meeting role models from business to shape their career ideas and to develop their confidence in recognising that they too can succeed at such high levels.
